I greatly welcome the birth of SteepEdge and am very proud to be involved.
Films form a very important role in recording our mountain heritage, quite apart from providing brilliant entertainment and useful research. On a personal level it is great to have high quality copies of Annapurna South Face, Everest the Hard Way and Boningtons Secret Mountain which in their different ways provided important markers in climbing filming.
I can be accused of bias but I believe Annapurna South Face is one of the best expedition films ever, in the way that it captures the feelings and characters of the participants. The same can be said of Bonington’s (Tibets) Secret Mountain, where each team member was issued with a light weight film camera and the series of films shown on TV in 1998 portray a real gritty video diary of a climb.
